Exploring My Surroundings

Texture

When it came to texture I thought that black and white would be the best option, since it would diminish the focus on colour and instead emphasise the lines and grooves.

Figure 1: Cranium (Original Source)
When I took this photo I was mainly attracted to the multiple grooves and the textures of the bone as well as the various lines and cracks. At first glance the object itself has many shapes one could say that organic material is quite abstract. the lines on the skull are very jagged and seem to go in multiple directions.

Figure 2: Steel (Original Source)

When I happened upon this material I thought it glittered in the light and decide to photograph it, it reminded me of camouflage. The texture is quite random and has a multitude of shades made up of splotches, the contrast helped to differentiate between those shades. This texture though visible isn't tactile.

Figure 3: Cross (Original Source)
For this one I thought to diminish the contrast a little to make it lighter in the shadows. I think the pattern has a certain organic yet man made feel to it, the lines that make up the pattern seem to be going in one diagonal direction, however some variations are present.

Figure 4: Rusty (Original Source)
The rust on this metal door made a bunch of patterns which looked quite interesting, the paint flaking away around the rust patches made an interesting 3D texture.

Figure 5: Scorched (Original Source)
I walked upon a little grove of olives some of which were burnt, the trunk of one of them was hollow and the effected areas of the trunk had quite an interesting ashen look to them. The cracks in the wood created by the heat made for an interesting, harsh yet smooth texture. Several jagged  lines can be seen going vertically as well as several shapes mostly squares and rectangles.

Lines

Figure 6: Lone Pole (Original Source)
This electricity pole was left abandoned after it got disused, I chose to go for a silhouette for this one because of the feeling of abandonment that it evoked in me when I saw it. The trees around it make it feel secluded and the hanging wires show that its use is clearly over. The grey clouds in  the background help generate a sense of melancholy. I centred the pole to give an importance while also using it to divide the image into two equal parts.

Figure 7: Tunnel (Original Source)
The centre strip in this image leads the eye from the lower-right hand corner to the middle of the image and to the tunnel the line is smooth and curved. The darkness of the tunnel makes a lot of contrast against the lighter coloured walls, making it easier to notice the focal point of the image.

Figure 8: Pavement (Original Source)
In this close up of the pavement, I saw the leading lines of both the outer edge as well as the joint leading the viewers eye into the distance I decided to blur the farthest part of the image using a wide aperture to make the image more interesting and mysterious. The horizontal lines make for a sort of rhythm/repetitiveness that slowly fades away the lines are quite straight starting form sharp to fuzzy in the upper part of the image.

Figure 9: Geometry (Original Source)
When I saw this architectural feature the first thing that sprung to mind was, how all of the lines in the it make a multitude of shapes. You can clearly make out a bunch of triangles and squares. the lines themselves are diagonally put going in many directions crossing each other perpendicularly, the lines are quite thick and heavy looking.

Figure 10: Box of Mirrors (Original Source)
I immediately noticed the reflective properties of this building when I walked by, and found myself in the right position to take this symmetrical shot that contrasts. Like two sides of the same coin, a yin and a yang. The lines that comprise the window frames create perfect squares and the wire passing diagonally in front of the building gives a sense of movement. the lines cross each perpendicurarly creating a grid.

Typography

Figure 11: Furniture for the Gods (Original Source)
I remember seeing this shop sign since I was a child, and having lived in Greece before it reminded me of what I consider my second home in the Mediterranean. I found the typeface used to be quite unique and interesting. The sign itself inspires me to imagine what could have been sold at this shop in its heyday.

Figure 12: Car Wash (Original Source)
The focus of this image is the banner saying car wash, I immediately noticed it from afar and thought it looked interesting and funny. A car came in shot at just the right time.

Figure 13: (Original Source)
The circle reminded me of the sun and it made sense since it was an advert for sunshades. The shutter makes a sort of pattern like a brickwall.

Figure 14: Dancing Script (Original Source)
I really liked how the script on this garage door looked like a long exposure light painting, the movement it conveys reminds of a dancer, which i  think goes very well with its intended purpose.

Figure 15: Where am I? (Original Source)
The sign in the middle of  grove of trees makes this image a reminder of the ever present presence of human activity, even in the calmest of places you're reminded that there's civilisation nearby.

Colour

Figure 16: Door (Original Source)
I really like how the volour of the door popped out from  the rest of the colours of the facade. I felt like it resembled one of the colours that I had previously included in the colour moodboard.

Figure 17: Balcony (Original Source)
The colour of the balcony came close to what I wanted in my plans, it looked unique in the area since most of the other houses had modest colours.
Figure 18: Mustard (Original Source)
I noticed the colour and then the text I thought that I could use for the typography section, but I thought that the colour had a better impact so eventually I decided to included it in  the colour section.

Figure 19: Graffiti (Original Source)
Two of the main colours that I wanted happened to be in the same spot so I took the opportunity to capture them together. These colurs have a summer feel  to them since they're light and bright, the tone however is a bit cold, the graffiti in  the background gives the photo a calm vibe.

Figure 20: Run (Original Source)
Here I managed to capture the three primary colours however they are faded, as I intended them to be.

Figure 21: Going Somewhere (Original Source)
I really like how the clolours here all seem  to be a shade of yellow, the reflections on the windows of the bus make the image a bit more interesting.

Figure 22: Industrial (Original Source)
I really like how the sky reflects in the glass and how an orange tintnis coming from the glass itself, the colours are quite faded, the crane reflecting in the background gives the image a point of interest.
